A Haitian restaurant in Canarsie, Brooklyn, New York, easily accessible, with ample parking and close to all major public transportation, has survived the COVID-19 pandemic, says the owner of Carlie’s Corner Restaurant & Bar, also known simply as Carlie’s Corner. “We serve classic, traditional Haitian cuisine to our community. We are part of a strong, interconnected business that proudly unites the Haitian community in this area,” says one of the chefs. According to Zip Atlas, the Canarsie area is home to nearly 10,000 Haitians in the zip code shared by Carlie’s Corner, 1778 Ralph Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11236. To simplify ordering, they have partnered with online delivery platforms like Uber Eats, Grubhub, and DoorDash; alternatively, customers can call the restaurant and bar to place orders. Offering customers a variety of ordering options, Carlie’s Corner also serves a broad audience and has a reason to preserve Haitian cultural heritage through its services.

The restaurant and bar embodied a spirit of innovation, quickly adopting solutions to ensure the survival of Carlie’s Corner and its long-term future, as demonstrated by its success since opening in February 2020, just before the peak of the pandemic that led to the March 2020 lockdown. When surrounding businesses faced uncertainty and limited resources, Carlie’s Corner knew precisely what to do, thanks to its ideal model of abundant opportunities, which it leveraged to promote health management through dining. The owner began to think about how to offer a dining experience that was both enjoyable and healthy. Keeping health at the forefront of all her decisions, she became very selective in choosing food and beverage suppliers and all the components needed to expand the business.

For convenient and enjoyable service, restaurant customers can make reservations by phone or stop by for an unforgettable experience. The restaurant has a fully equipped bar, approved by the New York State Liquor Authority (SLA). The atmosphere and service at Carlie’s Corner are very welcoming, and they hope to open a full-service juice bar soon. Carlie’s Corner serves its community for parties and celebrations, including baby showers, weddings, engagement parties, family and friends reunions, and corporate events such as job promotions. It’s essential to call ahead to reserve these types of services.

Carlie’s Corner Restaurant & Bar has received high praise from customers, as evidenced by Google reviews, including: “I have to say, Haitian cuisine in Brooklyn is a hit or miss. I tried this place after reading the reviews online. I’m thrilled: everything is delicious! I had rice and beans, fried pork, and plantains as a side. Everything is seasoned to perfection! The plantains are so crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.” Recognizing that everyone’s tastes are different, the restaurant encourages all readers of these reviews to try the menu. For those visiting on Thursdays or Sundays, the restaurant and bar offer special hours with music. Haitian kompa and Latin rhythm lessons are also available, led by the Dansovillar dance company, with music from a renowned DJ.

Every Sunday, the chefs prepare a variety of excellent Haitian dishes from their special selection, offered by the restaurant. Every Sunday, Carlie’s Corner kicks off the evening with “Domingo Picante,” a program launched on October 26th of this year that invites guests to enjoy Latin American and Caribbean music and traditions with DJs Hyper Mannie and Don Felipe.
